The House: Orsigna Casa Vacanze

Orsigna is an enchanting place. Set in the Appenine mountains of Pistoia, it is a small village with 61 inhabitants, famous round the world for Tiziano Terzani’s unbridled passion for these places.

Here the attraction of the chestnut woods and the simple world, governed by the seasons and mountain activity, has remained in tact.

Our house, in the hamlet "Il Contadino" at 1 km from the village, was built by Grandfather Alighiero  at the beginning of the 20th century.

It is made up of three apartments, lovingly brought to life through many weekends of hard work, by myself and a few close friends with a love for the mountains and for the simple things in life.

Ground Floor

Large kitchen with fireplace and oven – equipped with everything necessary – hallway leading upstairs – bedroom/lounge – bathroom with shower. I usually live here with my dog at weekends. If the other two apartments are already occupied in exceptional cases (if I really like the guests) I move and give up this delightful peace to rent out my space for short periods.

It is ideal for 2 people, ideally a couple. There is only a double sofa-bed

First Floor

kitchen equipped with everything necessary – large double room (another bed possible) – medium double room and bath with shower. Delightful mezzanine floor for private reading and afternoon relaxation. Beautiful view towards south-east over the valley and countryside.

Second Floor

kitchen equipped with everything necessary – large double room (another bed possible) – medium double room and bath with shower. Breathtaking view towards north over the valley and countryside, at the top towards south-east and at the back towards north over the chestnut trees.

The hamlet "Il Contadino"

In the hamlet there lives just one family all year round – 4 cats – hens – 2 beautiful dogs. Deer walk all around. All around there is absolute silence. A really refreshing peace and colours and smells to enjoy in every season. There is a television with satellite dish in the owner’s house if needed and free internet access.

In the autumn of 2009 the actors of the German film “The End is My Beginning” came to stay in the house during filming. A film set in our hamlet in front of our house. In our Guest Book there are their thanks and autographs.

What to do

Pick raspberries in summer, chestnuts in winter – go walking on the gravel bed of the Orsigna stream – trekking routes – meditation – relax – guided tours of the trees with Tiziano Terzani's eyes – trips to the CAI lodge at Portafranca – to Scaffaiolo lake – to Abetone and to Porretta Terme.

Eat typical products made with care and passion by the chef Leonardo at the mill – horse rides – visit Giamba mill that still produces the famous chestnut flour of Orsigna, at one time the primary source of nourishment of the inhabitants like my grandfather who was called “3 quintali” (300kg) for his strength.

We are preparing to offer yoga courses in the summer months.
